Guide
Bolt vs Lovable for beginners
Bolt and Lovable both start a web app from a sentence in the browser. This guide is the beginner reading of their free limits and the two $25 plans, with no tested winner.
Answer
Pick either one if you want a first page from a prompt. Bolt Free is a token cap with branding. Lovable Free is a small daily credit grant and does not let you download the code. The $25 plans buy different units. vibestacklab has not built the same app in both.
Beginner path
Start here
You want a web app, you do not have a project folder, and you do not want to pick an editor yet. Bolt.new and Lovable are both built for that. You type what the app should do. They create it in the browser. You click around and ask for the next change.
This guide does not say which one finishes faster. vibestacklab has not run the same prompt in both. The comparison page lines up the published plans. The Bolt tool page and the Lovable tool page hold the prices. Those pages were checked on 15 October 2026. This guide was written on 20 October 2026 and does not claim a newer price check.

The free plans are not the same kind of free
Bolt Free is $0. The pricing page lists 300,000 tokens a day and 1 million tokens a month, website hosting, public and private projects, and Bolt branding. Custom domains are not on Free. Uploads are capped at 10 MB. The billing help says a Supabase database requires Pro or Teams, so the free plan is a poor place to start if the first version needs accounts or saved rows.
Lovable Free is also $0, and the unit is credits. The plan docs grant 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits and 4 AI credits a month. Daily build credits do not roll over. The building table says Free cannot edit or download code, and it cannot use a custom domain. You can try a build. You cannot yet take the repo with you.
A token is not a credit. Bolt says most token use is syncing the project files to the model, so a larger project costs more per message. Lovable's credit is a workspace unit, and the docs say a credit is not the same price on every plan. Do not do the math that turns 1 million tokens into 30 credits. Nobody on these pages published that conversion, so this guide will not invent it.
What $25 buys
Both vendors list an entry paid plan at $25 a month. They are buying you different things.
Bolt Pro at the entry tier is $25 a month for 10 million tokens, with no daily token limit on that plan. The pricing page also lists no Bolt branding and custom domains. Paid subscription tokens roll over for one extra month, so they last up to two months, and an active paid subscription is required to use them. Teams is a different plan at $30 per member a month. Tokens are not shared. Each member gets their own allotment.
Lovable Pro at the 100-credit tier is $25 a month, or $250 a year. The plan is a shared credit pool. The pricing FAQ says members are unlimited and the plan is priced by credits, not by seats. Pro adds code editing, code download, custom domains, and removing the Lovable badge, according to the plan comparison. Higher credit tiers exist on the same page. Business at the same 100-credit tier is $50 a month and is where the docs place SSO and training opt-out by default.
If several people will share one bill, Lovable's published shape fits that better. If you are one person and you care about a token ceiling you can read on a pricing card, Bolt's published shape is easier to quote. Neither sentence is a test of how far $25 goes on your idea.
A first afternoon in either tool
Use the same small project in whichever one you open. Do not open both.
- One page. A tip jar, a birthday note, a list of records you own.
- No login and no database.
- One button, and you can say what the button does.
- One change after the first result. Change a color or a sentence. Do not paste a second huge prompt.
- Publish with the product's own button. Write down the URL and the free limit you just read.
The prompt pattern lives in your first app with AI. The longer 2026 walkthrough is how to build an app without coding.
When the free ceiling stops you, stop. Read the tool page before you pay. Switching from Bolt to Lovable mid-prompt means starting the page over, because the projects do not move with you on the free plans described above.

Bolt Forge is a third agent on open-source models. The help center says the Pro preview ended on 14 October 2026. The pricing page, read on 15 October 2026, still said Forge was included until 18 October. Both sentences are Bolt's. This guide does not pick one. If you were counting on Forge, read both the Forge help and the pricing page before you treat it as included.
Lovable does not have that conflict on the pages used here. That is not a reason Lovable is better. It is a reason to read Bolt's own pages twice.
What this guide will not tell you
It will not tell you which screen looks nicer. It will not tell you which model is behind the chat. It will not tell you that one of them is "best for beginners" in a tested way. Beginner fit 5 on both cards means the product starts from a prompt in the browser. The app builders category says the same thing, and it also lists v0 and Replit if Bolt and Lovable are the wrong shape. Best free AI app builders (2026) is that wider list.
Advanced path
If you already know the difference
You are choosing a billing unit and a team shape, not a beginner tutorial.
Bolt meters tokens, and a larger project uses more tokens per message because the files are synced to the model. Teams does not share that pool. It charges $30 per member. Lovable meters a workspace credit pool, with unlimited members on every plan, and Free cannot download code. Pro is where code download and a custom domain show up.
If the next step is a database, read Supabase and Bolt's billing note that a Supabase database requires Pro or Teams. If the next step is a repo you already have, leave both of these and use a coding agent. Browser builders are the wrong door for that job.

Questions
Which one should a beginner open first?
Either Bolt or Lovable. Both have beginner fit 5 on this site, which is an editorial reading, not a lab score. Open one. The free limits below were read on 15 October 2026.
Are the two $25 plans the same amount of building?
No. Bolt Pro's entry tier is $25 a month for 10 million tokens. Lovable Pro's 100-credit tier is $25 a month for the whole workspace. The vendors define those units differently. This guide does not convert one into the other.
Can I use a custom domain on the free plan?
No for either tool on the pages checked 15 October 2026. Both list a custom domain on the $25 tier, and not on Free.
Does the Bolt link change which one is recommended?
No. The Visit site button for Bolt is an affiliate link. It is labeled. Rankings, verdicts, and the source links stay the official vendor pages.
