Cursor vs Claude Code

Research checked 2026-10-15. Hands-on test: not run. Not yet hands-on tested — research summary.

Cursor is an editor on The X Subscription. Claude Code is Anthropic's terminal and task agent, included with paid Claude plans. This page compares those published shapes. It does not declare a tested winner.

Answer

Cursor and Claude Code both work on a repository you already have, and they are sold differently. Cursor is the editor, starting at $8 a month for Grok-only use and $30 a month before third-party models are available at API rates. Claude Code is included with Claude Pro at $20 a month, or $17 a month on the annual plan, and it is built to run from the terminal, GitHub, and Slack as well as an IDE. Vibe Stack Lab has not run the same task on both.

Fit by use case

Closer public fit. This is not a tested winner and it has no score.

Use caseCloser public fitWhy, from the docs
Editing an existing repo in the editorCursorCursor is the editor. Claude Code can attach to VS Code or Cursor, but its product page leads with the terminal and with tasks you hand off.
A long task from the terminal, GitHub, or SlackClaude CodeThe Claude Code product page lists those surfaces and describes multi-hour work. Cursor's cloud agents are a separate tier feature, not the whole product.
Staying on one chat subscription you already pay foreitherCursor is The X Subscription. Claude Code is a Claude plan. The closer fit is whichever bill you already have. Codex is the same idea for ChatGPT and is not one of these two.
A measured winner on a shared taskneitherNo shared task has been run. A fit column here is a reading of the product pages, not a score.

Read the two tool pages before treating any cell as current. Prices were checked on 15 October 2026 and each figure on those pages links to its source.

A future lab entry for this comparison would run one task in both tools, keep the prompts, and record time and cost. Until that log exists, the table is a map of the products, not a result.

Questions

Which one won?

Neither. The use-case table says which published surface is closer to a kind of work. It is not a timed comparison and it has no score.

Can Claude Code run inside Cursor?

Anthropic's product page lists a VS Code extension and names Cursor among the editors it integrates with. That does not make the two products the same subscription.
