Devin Desktop
Windsurf is the retired name. The successor is Devin Desktop, Cognition's IDE, and new users can still download it. The pricing page lists Free at $0, Pro at $20 a month, and Max at $200 a month.
Quick verdict
The Windsurf name is retired. On 15 October 2026, windsurf.com redirected to the Devin Desktop page, which says Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf and that the IDE remains. The FAQ dates that rename to 2 June 2026 and says the plan and price do not change, including legacy Windsurf Enterprise. The pricing page lists Free at $0, Pro at $20 a month, Max at $200 a month, and Teams at $80 a month plus $40 a month per full dev seat. The self-serve doc still describes Teams as an $80 a month minimum, with a $40 full seat and a $0 flex seat. Those are Cognition's published prices as of 15 October 2026, not a lab measurement.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Interval | Notes | Source | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | month | The pricing page says a light quota to code with agents, limited model availability, unlimited inline edits, and unlimited Tab completions. The self-serve doc adds Devin Review and DeepWiki, and it does not print a request count. This page does not invent one. | Official source | 2026-10-15 |
| Pro | $20 | month | One person. The pricing page includes frontier models, cloud agents, and extra usage at API pricing. The self-serve doc says the quota is daily and weekly and covers Devin sessions, Devin CLI, and Devin Desktop. | Official source | 2026-10-15 |
| Max | $200 | month | One person. The pricing page says everything in Pro, plus significantly higher quotas. The self-serve doc says that quota is weekly, with no daily cap. | Official source | 2026-10-15 |
| Teams | $80 | month | The pricing page headline is $80 a month for the team plan plus $40 a month per full dev seat, up to 200 users. The self-serve doc says every Teams account pays at least $80 a month, a full seat is $40 a month and includes Devin Desktop, and a flex seat is $0 and does not include the desktop app. | Official source | 2026-10-15 |
| SWE-2 on the models doc | $3 / $15 / $0.30 per 1M | after 15 October 2026 | Free for self-serve plans through 15 October 2026. After that the models doc lists $3.00 per 1M input tokens, $15.00 per 1M output tokens, and $0.30 per 1M cache input tokens. Enterprise ACU plans use a different table. | Official source | 2026-10-15 |
| SWE-2 on the pricing page | $0 | through 16 October 2026 | The pricing page says SWE-2 is free in Devin Desktop and the CLI through 16 October 2026. It does not restate the token prices. Read this row next to the models-doc row. | Official source | 2026-10-15 |
Who it's for
- Someone who already edits code in an IDE and wants the agent in that app. Download Devin Desktop, not a product still branded Windsurf.
- A person who still has Windsurf installed. The desktop page says the update keeps the plan, the price, the extensions, and the settings.
- A team buying seats. The self-serve doc says a full seat is what unlocks Devin Desktop. A flex seat does not.
Pros
- The FAQ says existing Windsurf settings, extensions, and rules carry over, and AGENTS.md files are read.
- Pro is a single published price, $20 a month, on both the pricing page and the self-serve doc.
- There is a free plan. The pricing page describes a light quota, limited model availability, unlimited inline edits, and unlimited Tab completions.
Cons
- The Windsurf name is retired. The old domain does not keep its own plan table, and older Windsurf screenshots are not the current product.
- Teams is described two ways. The pricing page says $80 a month for the team plan plus $40 a month per full dev seat. The self-serve doc says an $80 a month minimum, and a flex seat at $0 that does not include Devin Desktop.
- SWE-2's free window does not match across Cognition's own pages. The models doc says through 15 October 2026. The pricing page says through 16 October 2026.
Test log
No hands-on run is recorded. The lab protocol on the methodology page (a CRUD app, a seeded bug, a refactor, and a Vercel deploy) has not been executed for this page. There is no time, success rate, cost, screenshot, or score to show.
The Windsurf name is retired
On 15 October 2026, windsurf.com redirected to Devin Desktop. That page says Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf, and that the Agent Command Center is in front while the IDE stays available. The FAQ dates the rename to 2 June 2026, says nothing is removed, and says your plan and price do not change, including legacy Windsurf Enterprise.
The public X account @windsurf displays as "Windsurf (retired)". Its description says: "The product formerly known as Windsurf. Now you can find us @devindesktop, a product by @cognition!" The product page to use is Devin Desktop, not a separate Windsurf download.
This page keeps the slug windsurf so older links still land. The title is Devin Desktop. Signup is still open. The pricing page has Free, Pro, Max, and Teams.
What you pay
Use the pricing page for the dollars it prints: Free $0, Pro $20 a month, Max $200 a month, and Teams at "$80/month for team plan + $40/mo per full dev seat". Enterprise is listed as "Let's talk", with no dollar amount on that page.
The self-serve doc says the pricing page is authoritative, and it adds mechanics the headline does not spell out the same way. It says every Teams account pays at least $80 a month, a full seat is $40 a month and includes Devin Desktop, and a flex seat is $0 and does not include the desktop app. Fewer than two full seats still pays the $80 minimum, with the remainder charged as prepaid on-demand credits. This page does not collapse those two descriptions into one bill.
SWE-2 is also split. The models doc says it is free for self-serve plans through 15 October 2026, then $3.00 per 1M input tokens, $15.00 per 1M output tokens, and $0.30 per 1M cache input tokens. The pricing page says it is free in Devin Desktop and the CLI through 16 October 2026, and it does not restate those token prices.
Cascade and JetBrains
The 2 June 2026 post says the legacy Cascade agent remains available through July 1st. The FAQ says through July, without a year on that sentence. Devin Local is the newer local agent.
The desktop page says Windsurf for JetBrains is still available for download. The FAQ says that plugin is in maintenance mode and that Cascade inside it is being deprecated. Both sentences are Cognition's.
What this page does not claim
Cognition's SWE-2 launch post includes benchmark figures. They are not repeated here. This site does not publish scores, and it has not run Devin Desktop.
Questions
Is Windsurf gone?
The Windsurf name is retired. The IDE is not shut down. Devin Desktop is the successor, and the desktop page still offers a download and says the editor, extensions, and in-progress work carry over. This site keeps the slug windsurf so older links still land.
Where do I get the successor?
Download Devin Desktop from https://devin.ai/desktop. On 15 October 2026, windsurf.com redirected there. The @windsurf account on X displays as Windsurf (retired) and says the product formerly known as Windsurf is now Devin Desktop, a product by Cognition.
Does the $20 Pro plan include every model for free?
No. Pro includes a usage allowance. The two SWE-2 dates above are both Cognition's, read on 15 October 2026. Extra usage past the allowance is billed at API pricing on the pricing page, and as on-demand credits on the self-serve doc.
Did vibestacklab time Devin Desktop on a task?
No. This page is a reading of the Devin Desktop page, the pricing page, the self-serve doc, the models doc, and the rename FAQ.
